My System Specs

Default Cougar Point recall has screwed me, need advice.

As a couple of you may know I posted a thread a couple of days back asking for opinions on sandy mobos. So I drove to memory yesterday to buy the Gigabyte UD7 and the guy brings mine out from the back room (had it on hold) rings it in and goes "So its 311.xx Visa or Debit?....Oh crap, I don't think I can sell these".

He goes and gets his manager, at this point I figured I was screwed. Manager comes back and says none of the Cougar Point boards will be sold anymore until Intel figures out what to do. From everything I've read on the net, looks like everyone has to make new mobos which will probably only be released by April.

This leaves me between a rock and a hard place. I have ALL my other components bought (this was to be my first xfire+eyefinity build) and no motherboard to connect them to. This is the only desktop I have right now (need one for work and school, not just play) and currently I'm forced to work off my laptop.

So my options are:

1) keep all the parts I bought new (haf-x, 8gb Gskill, 2500k, 3x s243hl's, dual 6870's, ax850 gold, nhd14, g9x/g19 combo) on a shelf somewhere till intel figures their crap out. This leaves me with no computer for probably 3 months, and parts that are depreciating in value without being used. Even then, the boards will probably be in high demand by april and sold out everywhere.

2) Sell the 2500k at a loss and go AMD? Except bulldozer is coming out (god knows when in reality even though they say Q2) and AMD has nothing that can even come close to sandy.

My question is: What would you do in my situation?

I'm thinking of a downgrade to 1090T BE or a 1366 build (only be able to do a i7 950 as the others are way out of my league)

That sucks.

Canada Computers seems to be selling boards...hit them up and order online before they change their minds.

If you don't want to wait, CC has stock of that board:
Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7 Socket 1155 Intel P67 Chipset CrossfireX/3-Way SLI Dual-Channel DDR3 2133/1866/1600/1333/1066Mhz 2x PCI-Express 2.0 x16 Dual GigaLAN 7.1-CH HD Audio 4x SATA 6.0Gb/s 2x SATA 6.0Gb/s 4x SATA 3.0Gb/s 10x USB 3.0/2.0 IEEE 1394a ATX |

That being said, are you happy getting a CP based board now? Would you be willing to RMA later on if you want it replaced? Will be hard to sell if you decide to do so later on.

Thanks for the Canada Computers link guys, I placed my order with them but they'll probably cancel it. Can't see how they wouldn't. Can't return the 2500k as it's passed the 7 day return. I only have 3 devices, dvdrw drive, ssd, and hdd. with 4 6Gbps ports I should be fine right? From what I've read its only the 3Gbps ports over time...

My suggestion is see if you can sell the 2500K on eBay or something.
Then pick up a cheap P55+i3 combo for now and overclock it to 4.2 GHz+.. that should tide you over for the next couple of months imo.

That should be able to do you a couple years, I doubt a upgrade would be needed unless you want to grow your e-penis a little bigger.
