i7 2600k vs i7 950 in real world performance

i want to know if i should upgrade to 2600k to 950 (since my 950 and sabertooth x58 is still new) >_>; after i read some review... its more like hd 5800 vs hd 6800... nothing is changed except tweak and improve it...

anyway i want to know about real world performance... will you notice difference between those cpu?

plus 2600k is just mainstream... i7 950 is not... so its just not cool...

I can feel either a little bit frustration or a little bit of buyer's remorse...don't take it the wrong way.

Sandy is not really targeted to people like you that own an i7-9xx...it's more for S775 users that are gamers and look for mainstream platforms in price

Sandy customers probably wouldn't buy the IVY bridge quad channel memory platform with expensive CPUs...
Rest to see how AMD Bulldozer pans out!

You have a good rig, don't worry. Sandy, even being mainstream, is a little bit faster clock for clock, and overclocks a lot more....Sandy reaches 980X in most cases, and i7 950 is NOT 980x...

Be happy with your 950 until IVY bridge comes out!

There will be NO noticeable real world performance difference between an 1366 socket chip (ANY of them) and any of the new k series SB chips. Mainly for the fact i've ran both platforms myself and i've notice absolutely no real world performance difference. You'll obviously get different benchmark results but day to day use (including gaming), there will be no noticeable difference, save your money and wait for maybe LGA 2011 if you want to upgrade.

thank you for useful answers.... thats what i really want to know...

and i would wait for amd bulldozer at summer/fall 2011 because ivy will lanuch next year... ;p

I'm still happily gaming on my old QX9650... runs everything beautifully.
Bulldozer and LGA 2011 are the chip I'll be looking at :)

I don't know enough to compare performances between the two CPU but unless you got the upgrade bug, I can't fathom why you would need a new rig with what you have in hands. It's more than a decent enough rig.

I think todays announcement about SB issues should have firmly answered your question.

Keep the 950 and sabretooth.

lol...

I think the etailers like NCIX should drop the prices a little more on X58 stuff and i7 9xx CPUs to "recuperate" potential upgraders that are shocked at Sandy's "disgrace"....lol a big strong word, maybe, but still, for INTEL, it's brutal!
