Default x58 PciE slots for SLI?

I have the Alienware x58 mobo with Nvidia SLI. I have read some info where it was said that the top two PCI E slots were the proper slots for SLI. The bottom slot, apparently is not the same PCI speed as the two upper slots. Is that info correct? Do the three slots run or recognize a different speed. What is the best way to install SLI into slots? Thanks for any input.

All I can find is.. Alienware Approved Intelx58 ATX Mother Board. I even googled but can't find anything more. Is there a way to find out without having to go into my case etc? Thank you.

Download and install CPUZ, it should be able to tell you what the exact motherboard is, as without knowing that we can't really help you much.

Unless someone has the same board as you, most of us would be guessing.

You can try running CPU-Z and under the mobo tab, it might give you a model number for the board that will be more specific that can be googled easily.

As for a guess, the two 16x SLI slots for a X58 board are usually the two top ones, and are often the same colour (ie the 16x slots could be blue, and the others white, etc).

Some boards are laid out differently (ie. Asus Rampage III Formula), but for the most part the top two PCI-E slots are the 16x ones.

Alienware use to use a lot of Asus boards back in the day, although now I have no idea. If you open up the case there should be a model number on the board in rather big letters. You could always take a picture and show us as well.
