Default New Asus BIOS :)

I don't know if it has been posted before but I found it really cool. People complain about how the BIOS is so old and wanted a facelift for it.

I personally don't like it. I like my bios BASIC and complete. Not flashy and software. One thing come to mind, if now it's more like a software bios, will there be anybug? If it's like the Asus Gamer OSD, this will be a huge fail :P Looking foward to it for sure. Time will tell how it goes.

It's not a GUI wrapper for the BIOS
It's a replacement for BIOS

While that is true I am still in the camp of like it basic, well outwardly more complex really.

See at work I don't want people messing with things in the BIOS and this just makes me thing that someone getting in there will want to move the mouse around and change things, unlike before where it was somewhat intimidating and would hopefully drive them away.

Now if it helps with boot times, (which it does, at least it did on some board, can't remember which one or where I read it) then I'm all for it. But martin_metal_88 did bring up a point I have thought of as well, with the addition of a GUI can come the addition of lousy code. Anyone think we will see more BIOS updates to fix little things than ever before with the UEFI?

  • Ability to boot from large disks (over 2TB)
  • Faster boot-up
  • CPU-independent architecture
  • CPU-independent drivers
  • Flexible pre-OS environment, including networking support
  • Modular design
Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to address one of the major issues with the current MB/Bios structure in that it looks like you'll still need a recognised CPU to be able to flash to a newer version.

OTOH, I do like the idea of being able to network without an OS installed. How about some basic cloud computing for stress testing........ ;)

So do you need a new board for it, or is this the kinda thing I can flash on? If not I guess I'll be waiting till I have a 1365 or 2011...

I believe there are EFI updates for some current boards already on the Asus website.
