My System Specs

Default Keep my 920 or Upgrade to A 970?

I currently have an i7 920 sitting at 4.0ghz. But when I saw that retail edge deal for the 970 it was too good to pass up, I payed my friend $100 to use his account plus the $300 for the processor which will be here Monday. Now I'm starting to have second thoughts. If I sell my 920 for 150 it will still have cost me 250 for the 970 and I'm unsure if it's worth the price. I mainly game and will be doing a fair amount of Photoshop soon so I'm not sure if it was really worth it. It was more of an impulse buy and now I'm having second thoughts. Any opinions?

Personally I think it's overkill. I rarely use more than 20% usage of my i7 920 @ 4.0ghz. I'm sure you could sell the chip for 500 and turn a profit.

Or if you're feeling generous a few of the folding members might fight over it for the price you paid + shipping.

You will probably not notice any difference from your i7 920 to i7 970 in games or photoshop.. clocked at the same speeds.

Keep the 920...not worth it imo unless you really really want a 6-core lol

For your needs, not worth it. You'll never notice the difference.

I would kick him in the nads for charging you to use his account...NOT a friend...

For the CPU discussion, keep you money for SANDY BRIDGE! If it's already a done deal, grab a nice cooler, like a H70, and OC the crap out of that 6-core beast.

I find it funny how people are all saying it's not worth it...true that most applications won't use that much power, but all serious test benches are running 980X CPUs....
True enough, a 920@ 4.0GHz was already nice....better than my Q9550 anyway...

LOL I agree.

The thing is: those are the beasts that aren't bottlenecked by anything...BEASTS!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to see what AMD and Intel got in prep for us in the new year...it would be a good idea for the OP to keep his hard earned money for Sandy bridge or Bulldozer!!!
