Default i7 970 OC with 3 DIMM vs 6 DIMM

Just a question regarding OC the LG1366 with 3 DIMMs vs 6 DIMMs. I would love to get 12GIG of ram for photoshop and premier usage, but I also want to OC the CPU over 4.0GHZ. I had the i7 870 before, and i had so much issue overclocking with 4DIMM compared to 2 DIMM. I was able to to hi 3.8ghz with 2DIMM and sadly only 3.6GHZ with 4DIMM.

I'm not sure how different overclocking is with LG1366, but would having 6 DIMMs significantly hindering my overclocking ability? Suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks in advance

It is really CPU depandant but generally it shouldn't be a problem. I ran up to 237bclk (4.8GHz) w/ all 6 DIMM's being used. Do you already have the ram or something? 4GB sticks aren't really expensive anymore, so there is no real reason to go w/ 2GB sticks.

if you gonna run with looser timings you be ok
i have 6 stix of redline 6-7-6 stiff
doin 1720mhz @ 6-7-6 and with 6 stix i had to loosen to 6-8-6
i can do 1800 cas6 but not with 6 stix
if you runin cas 9 you be fine
you do notice a difference runnin with tight timings;)

Hey! You are the person who bought two 4870x2 off me! I recognize your user name. Did any of them work, and I'm sorry if they both turn out to be bad. I just wanted to get it off my hand because I didn't want to test them
