Default MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 Help

Hello,

I'm building a new AMD pc and am kind of stuck at deciding what ram to get...

As it says in the title i picked

MSI 790FX-GD70 and in the specs it says DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600*/1800*/2133*(OC)

I took some 1600 ram with 8-8-8-24 timings (Note: I didn't post the brand or the name of the brand beacause on 3 previus forums they didn't answer my question and started to post me some Ram suggestion)

What does the OC in the Memory spec for the mobo mean?

OC in the specs means that it's beyond the "normal" operation of the motherboard chipset (what it was originally rated for / tested against).

In practice, all it means is that you'll have to manually increase the RAM multiplier in bios to get them to run at those speeds.

So I can use the 1600 ram but it won't run at 1600 but it will run at 1333?

At default. It's a simple matter of bumping the multiplier to get it to run at 1600.

hold on a sec, did you buy the board or not yet?

as for the ram speeds, dont be too stressed about it.

You may have to up the voltage a little too in order to get it running right. Depends on what the RAM is spec'd at.

I know getting my G.Skills running at their Rated rather than Default speed I had to up my voltage.
