I was looking at the Asus Maximus Gene III, has a good onboard sound chipset, good overclocking board.

Any other recommendations?

Which Gigabyte 1156 board would you say would be the equivalent of the Asus Maximus III Formula?

theres no direct equivalent, i think. maybe this ? neither are 150 dollars though.

UD3 is the equivalent I say. Better cooling on the VRM, OC really well and for the onboard sound I would like to see this X-fi really performing better than other good onboard before to say it's that better. But I would go for the UD4P. I am using a UD5 and this board is awesome and OC like hell, the UD4P being almost the same thing without a heatpipeon the SB and less SATA port it will rock the house.
