Default q9650 or Corei7

I've been looking for awhile now to get a q9450, 9550 or 9650, of course the prices seem to be high, and when I find a decent price, the shipping is through the roof. Is it even worth bothering with the LGA 775 slot anymore? Or just wait it out a couple months, hope that the 1366 boards come down in price and buy an i7 920 or something?

Unless you can find a cheap used Q9xxx series cpu, I'd wait it out till the I7 prices drop.

do wait for a 95xx series cpu to come down to 100 or less. you can find decent deals sometimes.

if you have a working and capable 775 system. if not? dont bother, go for 1156/155 though. cheaper.

I think it'll be awhile for any of these 9XXX series to drop down below 100$, most I find are 200$+ if not more new.

I think he means used not new... I just sold my Q9400 recently for around $150. It would be silly to pay $200. + for a new one... You can pick up a used I7 920/930 for around $225. I've seen them as low as $175. but they usually go fast at that price.

i wouldn't buy a 775 setup right now unless you already have most parts laying around, just go 1156 if you want to save money over 1366.

It all depends on your needs and budget. A 1156/1366 upgrade will probably require new memory in addition to a new board and CPU. It's really $150-200 for a 775 quad vs $380-550 for an i5/i7 quad.

Don't just consider 1366 processors. The i5 7xx and i7 8xx LGA 1156 processors are also compelling quads with performance comparable to 1366 processors, lower power consumption and less expensive boards. There are some inexpensive 1156 boards available in the buy-sell-trade forum now.

It might be a good idea to wait at least until LGA 1155 launched early next year. If it is compelling to enthusiasts, there may be a lot of inexpensive 1156 and 1366 hardware available. Personally, I don't expect much, but you never know.

I recently decided an 1156/1366 purchase made sense now because I don't expect 1155 to be a great leap forward nor do I expect to be an early adopter of LGA 2011. I expect my 1366 purchases to exceed my needs for the foreseeable future.

Another consideration is Black Friday; it is approaching and will undoubtedly shake up the new and used markets.

definitely go for the QX9650.. it's a 12MB Cache 45nm CPU.. it's cool with lots of headroom.. this is what I'm after at the moment too.
