My System Specs

Default More AMD price cuts

AMD has reduced the price of it's desktop processors for the second time in a month by anywhere from 3% to 45%. Ouch

WEll after this price cut, they now have almost a much performance per dollar as C2D-- the fastest AMD chip is now available for under 500 bucks. This may not mean anyone will switch from C2D, but it greatly improves the upgrade outlook for people with AMD already-- now it doesn't make as much sense to switch.

Here's an article by Anandtech on the performance/dollar comparison

It would have to be a heck of a deal for me to go AMD next upgrade. Since I need to buy new memory and a new motherboard as well as a new processor I can't see me going to AMD again soon.

I just found an indication of what the next generation of C2D prices are going to be like this spring, and it doesn't look like intel going to let up from the onslaught-- they could undercut amd by enough to destroy them, without breaking a sweat (unfortunately). And that seems like what they'll do- but who know's what the next year will hold- for now if someone had a lower end amd, it would make sense to just upgrade the cpu- yours is already pretty fast.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat.

Don't know what AMD was thinking when they released the AM2 line.

There really wasn't a performance boost over S939, and with the requirement for DDR2 only the true fan-boys are going to jump all over it rather than going core2duo.

I'll just wait it out until we see what they have to offer by the end of this year.

Those are US prices, but the Canadian prices are not all that much more.
