Default ASUS Crosshair IV Formula 890FX Review Comment Thread

With the release of the 890-series chipset, AMD firmly planted their flag in the enthusiast arena. Interestingly enough, most motherboards sporting the 890FX retail for significantly less than their Intel counterparts while being equipped with similar feature sets. very nice. its neck and neck with the ud7 price wise, loses in pci-e connectors but a winner nonetheless.

bus speed is impressive, but something mustve hold back, probably cpu because an 80 or so dollar board(giga 785) can do 300 htt :)

i probably missed it in there, but did he take a power reading @ 4.3ghz?

Nope, it isn't in the chart. However, if you're curious, I hit 512W peak power consumption running Prime95 + 3DMark Vantage with a stock-clocked 5770 vapor-x and 4.3/3.0ghz.

thanks for the update. that means the cpu alone overclocked is pulling some ~300 watts. which is less than what i saw on another website at those speeds. of course different parts(except cpu) give you different readings

One thing is certainly striking, even if doesn't change anything performance wise I find the aesthetic of this board very pleasing. The price is also pretty decent for the amount of features it has.
