My System Specs

Default Confusing temperature readings

E6750 stock heat sink, stock paste.
MB temp=28oc
MB cpu reading at start up (after its been running for a while): 31oc
Asus Probe-Idle/load: 14/24 both cores
Speedfan- Idle/load: 18/24 both cores
TAT v2.05-Idle/load: 20, 21/31,32 both cores
Coretemp 0.95.4: 33, 34 idle?? 46 load??

Ive used coretemp before with an AMD cpu but never had such a huge difference between the asus probe and coretemp.

Is coretemp .95.4 or TATv2.05 giving the right readings? Im going to install a scythe ninja tommorow with some AS ceramique anyway. But I've got no OC headroom if this chip idles like this.

Never used Intel before and found that with the opteron the software was in much better agreement

Use coretemp. And you do have a lot of room for oc'ing, since the Intel chips require very little voltage increase to oc well. You can push the chip up to 60C 24/7, no problem.

Ok sounds good. Coretemps the one to use then. I just read something about it adding 15oc but I can remember why now.

It will probably drop a bit once the new heatsinks on and good paste and I can start to OC.

If I ran my old opteron up to 60oc 24/7 it wouldnt last very long!

Once I get the newer quadcore and PSU I promise to start folding!

What mobo are you using? My p5k was showing abnormally low temps like that until I flashed the bios with the latest.

My System Specs

Default Asus P5KE-wifi

Im using bios 0503. I couldnt get the stupid EZ flash to find my USB drive so im wondering how to update it. A reviewer had a similiar issue. My last board was running 30-33oc in my case. Its well ventilated and I have a fancard pushing air like mad over the south and northbridge.

BTW if it is reading low whats a good later bios for the P5K?

I'm using 0504. I just use the asus update utility to flash the bios right from windows, never had a problem.

I couldn't really tell you what's normal, I'm running watercooled q6600@1.4volts and 3790mhz. 38 idle, up to 49 load. With the original bios I was reading about 10c lower.

Never had a problem flashing from Windows. Go ahead, and pray for no hickups.
