My System Specs

Default CPU / Motherboard Question

As you can see from my sig I have 3 i7's (worked a lot of overtime to get these babies and although I'm very happy with them I wonder if for the future before they lose their value if I would be better served selling my i7's and going with the AMD 1055t's etc...

I see people are starting to come out with more comparisons now and from what I've heard read they are very on par with the 920's in most cases and for me to be above the 1055t I'd have to go with i7 940 etc...

Just curious what people think/feel would be my best path/route to take.

Thanks in advance.

Well a bunch of people upgraded to the 940s or made rigs with 940s due in part to the retail edge deal as this was the processor being sold at a considerably lower price as it is now 'older' stock with the 950 replacing it as the 'new' stock.

There is nothing your D0s can't due right now really other then potentially hit higher overclocks but still, most of that is wasted power and cpu cycles unless you're back to big adv wu folding again.

And don't forget, all those CPUs should do 4GHz pretty easy with some adequate cooling. That will put you well ahead of AMD offerings.

Only place I see AMD possibly beating out a i7 920 is in a program that is well multitreaded and can use 6 cores simultaneously. Sadly, I don't think there's many that do.

There's no reason to sell your stuff and replace it with AMD parts. The i7s are still the most powerful CPUs out there.

You might be able to replace your wife's system with a bargain AMD platform and walk away with some money in pocket (does she take advantage of all that i7 power?- I know mine wouldn't)- put the intel motherboard in your kid's computer and sell the bloodrage because noone will buy the Intel for decent money- but if you want get get the most value, keep them and overclock those processors!
