Default about temps for 955 on stock cooling

Hi,

what should the temps (idle and load) on the amd 955 BE edition be with stock cooling?
The room temperature is around 25 degrees and remains around that.

thanks in advance

it can vary on how you get the reading. c3's run the coolest, so 30-40's od;e are not that uncommon.

what matters are load temps. differences can be quite..large lol.

prime it and see what gives

Its the temps with CM V8 Cooler, max safe temps for 955 c3 is 62c,your friend should be extra careful since it 14c hotter than max safe temp, wonder why your friend's CPU go off in smokeGot a friend that fried his 955 at 81c when OCing,AMD void his warranty

my friend has not overclocked but his temps are still that high. So am guessing that he need to do something about the cooling then. Thanks all.

The AMD stock cooler is crap if you ask me,any entry level aftermarket cooler will solve his temp issue if he does'nt plan to PC

Sorry, I'm new and late on this topic.. So I have a Phenom II x4 955 like you said.. and I'm just wondering whats going on with the cpu temp meter. Like what you guys said before, the after market fan should make it cooler. But after installing a cheap coolermaster hyper 101 it idles around 42c/43c and when on the load its about 56c/57c or around there. The stock AMD fan was 33c idle... loaded at 45c/46c. Whats going on here?? The AMD fan i think is 3300rpms, Aftermarket Fan is running at 2300rpm. could that be the reason?? What do you guys think?

If the aftermarket fan is bigger or designed to be quieter than the stock cooler then it will likely run at lower RPMs to as to not annoy your ears. However, that higher idle temperature tells me there's something wrong with your cooling solution. From the pics Hyper 101 - Cooler Master the Hyper 101 is a heatpipe direct touch which should give you a similar or cooler idle temp.

I'd try the following:
  • Run fan at full speed (disable BIOS control to fan or plug it straight to the power supply if you have an adaptor). Post idle and load temperatures for us to compare here.
  • If the temps are too high, I'd check the bond between CPU and heat sink. Is the heat sink seated properly, and is there too much or too little thermal compound applied?
