Default My dad thinks he can do watercooling with the faucet in our bathroom...

He thinks it will work with his dual core pentium processor that I already clocked to 2.66ghz from 1.6ghz.

He wants to overclock it to something unrealistic like 5ghz but running a hose through to a cpu block from who knows where.

How can I convince him that he needs a radiator and a proper case?

This would be similar to any of the "large resevoir" projects like pools etc......

Assuming that the water source is constantly fresh, and isn't hot to start with, as long as the water continues to flow you really don't need a rad. The purpose of the radiator in a closed WC loop is to wick away heat from the water after it's been heated up by the cpu. If the water isn't in a closed system it will always be cool and such wouldn't need to be cooled down by a radiator.

That said.... is an open loop system practical? Generally not.

Tell him that he needs to read more about watercooling and overclocking Intel E2XXX chips.

It would cost more to properly set this up then just to buy a new CPU....
Smack your dad for me, and tell him to go get a new CPU =D

If this "dad" story is true, I'm afraid you drew the short straw in the gene pool.

Considering you posted this in CPUs & Motherboards leads me to believe that initial statement.

My condolences.

There's a little thing called condensation that you might want to be worried about, water from an underground source is most likely 4ºC, cold surface, warm moist air, drip drip, zzzzzzzttttttttttttttt.... Even if it winds up being pure enough not to cause a short, it's gonna corrode.
