My System Specs

Default The trial by computer continues

(This is a continuation of the discussion from Nvidia: were they sent here by the devil? if you need more detail please read that thread)

So I got my Asus P5Q Deluxe yesterday.

I disassembled my machine and rebuilt it around the new board.

I recreated my RAID 0 partition and tried to install windows 7 on it.

The system loads the installer off of the disk and then freezes.
It never runs the installer.

I tried running Ubuntu from an USB stick.
The options menu came up but once I selected Boot Ubuntu From The USB Stick the screen went blank and stayed blank.

The screen also sometimes goes blank during boot.

Any ideas?

(I've logged the issue with Asus support, but I haven't heard anything back yet.)

Asus reply:
Please clear CMOS to have a try.
And just keep a CPU, a graphic card, a memory on the motherboard to test again. If the PC could keep boot up well, then install a HDD and a CD-ROM to re-install a new clear OS to test again.

My friend in works advice:
Turn on the computer and go into the bios and watch the CPU temperature over 20-30 minutes to see if it is being cooled properly.

I got the computer to install windows 7.
The system was up and running Windows updates and installing tools from the Asus driver disk.
I left it alone for 20-30 minutes and when I came back the screen was blank and the pc was still whurring away. I moved the mouse and keyboard but there was no response.
I pressed the power button and the pc turned off immediately. (I did not have to hold the power button down).
Since then when I turn on the PC nothing comes up on the monitor, the system does not beep and the keyboard does not light up.
I tried resetting cmos and swapping graphics cards but that didn't help.
What's wrong with this thing?

Try assembling your pc outside the case with just the cpu, 1 hd, 1 stick of ram, and video card. You should at least get some sort of beep out of it. Also check to make sure all connectors are seated properly.

+1 This could be a dud motherboard, a short (riser placement perhaps), or maybe a power issue? I'd say you should check to make sure the CPU power cable is plugged in correctly, but you said you got halfway through an install so it did boot at some point...

Thanks, my house is a bit messy for running external, but I'll definitely check the cpu power connector.
