My System Specs

Default pre-hst order arrived today!

My cpu and motherboard came in today. Sadly, I'll have to wait until after I move at the end of the month to get this build started. There are still a few parts I need before I can case mod for cooling and paint.
I read a few reviews on this board and it did not disappoint! This is one very solid board. The heatpipe on this thing is huge.
I remember sometime ago that someone had mentioned they wanted to see more builds with MSI boards. I chose this board because of it's color scheme, capability for sli and physx and still have a pci slot available for my sound card. At $169 after the rebates, I think I got a good deal. Here are a few pics.

I'm curious to see what kind of oc I can achieve with this combo.

very nice

msi picked up a bit with the newer gen :) they had a bit of a gap there where they were left a tad behind.

Gonna be interesting to see how you're making out with this board.
Heatpipes are looking nice.

It'll also be interesting to see what kind of oc I can get on the i7. I'll be cooling it with a boreas. Most of the oc's I have read about seem to be at or just over 4Ghz on air. I'm currently in touch with coolit to get my hands on some s1156 retention bars. I have to send coolit some pics of my boreas FHE this morning when I get home from work.

I've been using an i7 875K with my EVGA P55 FTW for about a week now, and compared to the i7 860 it replaced, I couldn't be happier.

Right now it's at 160x25 for 4.0Ghz, but stress tests ran flawlessly for 5 hours at over 4.1ghz (160x26) at stock voltage and VTT of 1.2 which is very low. By contrast, my i7 860 at 175x21 (3.85Ghz) was at 1.38v Vcore, and 1.275 VTT.

Considering the lukewarm reviews of this chip, I've been pretty happy with the OC and temperatures I've gotten. It's being cooled by a Coolermaster Hyper 212+ but that is also with two GTX 275s folding at full throttle generating a lot of heat. At 100% load the CPU is in the low 70s which is very good for this speed/cooling combination. It's actually lower than the i7 860 was at 3.85.

You should be getting 4.0Ghz with 133BCLKx30 multiplier without touching VTT on this board, or even go up to 4.133 with a 31 multiplier without much voltage adjustment, if any at all.

Good luck.

I was watching NCIX tech tip last night and they OC'd that combo. With the OC genie they were able to OC it to 3.7 with no effort

Would you happen to have a link to that? I looked around but couldn't find it.
