Yes, they have been true parallel since day one, with those nice old Dual P2's! I am not entirely sure how these new 5000 series Xeon quads work... I believe they are similar architecture to the core 2 quads. But the two Processors are parallel, talking through the FSB/chipset. They even share their own RAM. I know the dual Opteron boxes have intependend RAM channels, but I am not sure how this impacts performance.
