*Sadface* EVGA Classified commited Suicide :(

So, I had completely finished my new watercooling setup, leak-tested it no problem, completely made it clean, hook up all my cables, push the power button And... It catches on fire. Literally. It shorted out underneath the first USB/lan ports. and was on fire for about 5 seconds before it burned itself out. So 12 hours of making it perfect... just to tear it all apart again.

ANYWAY. I'm RMA'ing it and should receive a new one soon, but in the mean time I'm actually going to replace it, and I purchased the Rampage III Extreme. I'm just wondering what people's thoughts are about the Rampage III vs. the Classifed E760. Thanks.

:\ Can't say i've ever seen a computer burst into flames, do you know what caused the short?

Please tell me you can take a picture and upload it before you RMA it.

metal standoff in the wrong place?

if it burst into flame one the first start, there's probably a reason for it, better find it before slapping another 400bucks mobo in there IMO

looks more like a murder than a suicide :haha:

I checked all my standoffs, they were perfectly fine. I've taken out and re-installed this mobo atleast 12 times and never had a problem.

The Rampage III is a great board, it's definitely comparable to the E760 Classy. The classy does get the NF200 I believe, which gives it more PCIe lanes, but our GPU's still don't fully saturate PCIe x8 2.0 yet, not enough to see a significant difference between x16 and x8. The Rampage III also has nice overclocking utilities, the bluetooth module isn't gimmicky at all, my friend says it works great. I also like the look of the R3E more, and like how it remains the standard ATX size (albeit a bit wider).

ForTheGG

i think you're confusing the different classy board

759 n200 chip atx EOL
760 3sli atx
761 4 way sli xl-atx

unless you're doing extreme overclocking a rampage or classified is overkill

It's borked if the magic smoke came out....

Sometimes a little bit of magic smoke can come out and it'll be fine but if too much comes out there won't be enough left to run the motherboard.

id expect that to happen if the chippie were under an inch of dust for a while but a brand new board, and not a cheapo at that? uhh..one in a million :)
