Your problem is simple dude, you have a 780I mobo. The reason why Intel start doing chipset that suport sli is because the Nvidia one suck and was a pain in the A**. Just swap the mobo with a P45 one and drop the sli config and you will be fine.

My Ubuntu box folds, how should I join your group?
The Q9450 is my daily driver and is used for a bit more than just Folding/WCG/Seti/Rosetta/Poem, the 9800GTX on it Folds as well.

If the Deluxe is too pricey the P5Q-E is just as good with a few less bells and whistles. I have one with a Q9550 which has also done Folding/WCG/Seti/Rosetta/Poem as well as running dual 9800GTX+'s for F@H among other things. It's been running over a year and a half also 24/7.

Both rigs are running Vista Premium 64bit.

Okay, don't all scream abuse at me at once but is the sane choice just to get one of these?
ASUS P5N-T Deluxe Motherboard - NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI, Socket 775, ATX, Audio, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN, S/PDIF, USB 2.0, Firewire, eSATA, RAID at TigerDirect.com

Just replacing my XFX 780i with another one would only cost 70 dollars (plus some shipping, hassle and waiting). 780i - Google Product Search

But their boards seem to be particularly poor, considering the amount of reconditioned ones on sale.

Again I would say kick this Nvidia chipset out...sell your 2 card and get a new and better single card from 5770 to 5870 with a P45 mobo. You will have a pain free system with that.

There are ways of modifying the BIOS to enable SLI support, assuming the board has two PCIe x16 slots...

You can take a look here: ** Experimental method to insert nVidia SLI certificate into the BIOS ** but of course, as it says there, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I agree with the rest though, get a P45 chipset and you should be golden. The NVIDIA nForce chipsets failed after nForce4 IMO.

If you really must have an SLI board, look for one that uses the 750i chipset. It's the only nVidia chipset for Intel CPUs that doesn't totally suck. But I would agree with the other comments that you would be better off with a P45 board instead.

Well lots of boards are way better compared to my old one:
High performance board, in need of repairs

Hey! Check it out! I found something bing is good at:
ip45 - Bing Shopping[CommerceService%20scenario%3d%22f%22%20a%3d%22pa%2 2%20r%3d%22leafcategoryid|4534%22]&wf=Commerce&FORM=GGCA3

On google you can't filter out ram sticks by selecting "motherboard" for some reason.

[that said, it will be a cold day in hell when I switch to bing]
