Default Why are extreme cpus so expensive?

What make the Intel extreme cpu so much more expensive?
The unlocked multiplier
Superior potential for overclocking.

Just wondering how they can justify such a huge price tag.

It all just boils down to marketing and hitting up the crowd who has to have the latest and greatest. Plus the get a quick kick at recovering the huge R&D costs they get with every new line.

I'd spend $6000 on a haircut if the barber was a oiled up nude Angelina Jolie.

Default i suppose

I should have put this question in the are people crazy thread if it really boils down to that. But if they have the money--better than spending 6000 dollars on a haircut!

My System Specs

Default

it cost about the same to make a Q6600 and a QX6850. It is just for the rich kids that want the greatest without overclock.

I got my Girlfriend for a lot less than $6000 and she spends 2 hours every morning clocking herself up to Jolie Speeds.

The extreme processors do usually have unlocked multi and higher OC potential tho so its not like its a complete loss.

I still wouldn't buy one tho.
