Default i5 540 mobile vs i5 desktop processor

Hi Guys,

Currently have a laptop with an i5 540/4gb DDR3 RAM/Nvidia NVS3100

The gpu isn't all that great for gaming, but descent still. I was more wondering about the processor, let's say we compare that i5 540 dual core mobile processor to an i5 xxx dual core processor also, would it be about the same performance ?

Also do those desktop i5 dual core processors have hyper threading and power boost, coz' these mobile ones do. Just thinking if I should be building another desktop, or stay with my laptop.

Intel E8400, Biostar TPower i45
G-Skill PC2-8500 4GB, Saphire HD4870 512mb
Cooler Master HAF 932, Enermax Galaxy DXX 1000W
Samsung 931BW 19" LCD, Logitech MX Revolution
