Default Ever wonder why two motherboards can have different NB temps?
Here is why. Both from a Asus P5Q Pro Turbo. Good thing I took them both apart to add NB waterblocks.

Also ASUS... You can tell where the backing was stuck between the chips top an the goop. This was an NF4 so it was already smokin hot...

I luckally never fired it up like this. I just got it today and took it apart as soon as I opened it. I posted this on Ncix so they may pass it along to Asus. Removing the heatsink voids the warranty so not much use sending in the pics now.

altough with heat those backing things would melt and youd get contact in the end right?

Maybe on the VRM part but the NB protective film is kind of plastic/paper and would probably not melt.
