5 minute epoxy is about as close to liquid "plastic" as you're going to get. It doesn't always work, but the idea is that if a slight pressure with an erasure deadens the noise, then once it hardens the epoxy should do the same thing.

Used to see clear/milky epoxy on discrete components all of the time... I suspect if you've got any older cct boards kicking around that you'll see exactly what I mean.
