L2 Cache effects on Real World
SU4100 vs SU7300
These are mobile chips and I thought it would be better to put here over the mobile computing section. I'm planning to pick up the Alienware m11x and I believe that the $100 upgrade from the SU4100 -> SU7300 is a ripoff.
From what I can tell, they are essentially the same chip except the 7300 has virtualization for windows 7 and 1mb extra L2 cache. I don't need the virtualization so that doesn't make a difference to me. However, how big of a difference, if any will the extra L2 cache have on gaming and every tasks + photoshop?
Thanks in advance for any insight.
2mb cache to 3mb cache will not make a huge difference. jmo you can benchmark to see the difference but will you notice it in day2day use i don't think so
Yeah, in everyday use you're not likely to see a difference. It's not even close to the difference between 1MB and 2MB of L2 Cache. That's worth going for, but 2 -> 3 is significantly less of a jump.
So essentially it's not worth it to upgrade to 3mb for $100...?
