Default Asrock 4coredual vsta install Core2 quad Q6600 cpu

I have a problem that someone may be able to help me with.
ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA
Bios 2.39
4GB DDR2 ram
Installed an Intel core2 quad Q6600 cpu.
All fans are running. I am able to get into the bios and make changes if required.

Comuter will now only boot to a black screen with a flashing square in upper left corner.
Any ideas what may be happening to cause this? Any help is gratefully appreciated.
Ed

maybe it's looking for a boot disk?
have you changed the boot disk priority? or maybe recheck your sata connection and power?

Thanks for quick replies.
I did clear the cmos. Re-cleared again. No change.
Replaced battery.
Boot disk priority still same as before cpu change.
Rechecked sata connections ... ok.
Fans are on and I do get a post beep when I start up
but I just get to a dark screen with the flashing square in upper left corner.
I reset memory and pcie card.
I tested memory and it tested ok.
Tested power supply output, no load, all output voltages were ok.
Not sure where to go from here.
