Default AM2+ DDR2 motherboards near impossible to find?

So I spent a bit of time on Anitec and NCIX's websites trying to find a nice AMD2+ mobo that supports DDR2. The reason for that is that I got a good pair of G.skill 2x2GB DDR2 RAM. I would like to use that with a 940BE. However, it seems near impossible to find a good brand new motherboard from those sites that would meet my needs. Are those boards EOL now? Should I just forget about it and go with DDR3 and a AM3+ CPU? It does seem like a waste of money in many ways for me to go from 2x2GB DDR2 to 2x2GB DDR3.

Not sure what you mean: NCIX.com - Buy Motherboards In Canada.

^ +1 - There's quite a few good options out there. You only run in to a short fall when looking for AM3 sockets combined with DDR2.

Doh, thanks for correcting me guys!

Which board in NCIX's stock offers the best value and overclocking potential? I'm thinking of pairing the mobo with a PII 940BE.

Best value for OC'ing on that CPU is likely ASUS M4A78-E ATX 790GX

But if you're budget minded and only going to do minor OC'ing, and you're only going to install a single video card, (or go with on board) stick with Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H

There are no AM3 boards with only DDR2 support. That would just be an AM2+ board with a socket that has two fewer pins, and that would be pointless since it would unnecessarily drop support for all native AM2 and AM2+ CPUs.

I just picked up this board from Newegg as it popped on sale: Newegg.ca - Foxconn A79A-S AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

From many reviews it has a lot of overclocking potential which I was looking for with my 9850BE. Also many reviewers have had success running AM3 CPU's up to the 955BE. Haven't heard anyone running it with the 965BE, but you should be fine running the 940BE and DDR2 on this board. I'll be installing mine this evening. :)

I'm running the Gigabyte 790X UD4P, which would also run your CPU fine with DDR2. Although it's a little tougher to find now that Gigabyte has released their new lineup.

that wouldn't be harder to look for an AM2 mobo that supports DDR rams! I had had trouble to locate one and finally gave up and picked up a Asus M3A.

It would be impossible for an AM2 board to support DDR memory. The memory controller is built into the CPU, and all AM2 CPUs only have DDR2 memory controllers.
