so where are intel and amd heading..cpu...sockets wise?

775 was supposed to be abandoned ealier from what i read. kinda long lived, aka skt a.

amd, well, watch your am2/2+/3 sockets and read up which cpu goes where..:) thats my only beef with them.

I think AMD will keep the AM3 socket until Bulldozer. Until then, maybe a refresh like AM3+???

AM3 will die as soon as AMD manages to bring out Bulldozer, which will happen in 2011 at the absolute earliest. Until then, you're stuck with the Phenom architecture and AM3 socket.

As far as Intel, we don't know. They may or may not keep their current sockets for the upcoming Sandy Bridge architecture. The only thing we can say for certain is that we'll see 2 and 4-core CPUs for LGA1156 and 4 and 6-core CPUs for LGA1366.

There's nothing new for LGA775 as far as architecture goes. Any new CPUs will just be variants of existing chips.

Many Country wont let AMD die because of some law on fair market competition and monopoly. And they are still good on the server market so the chance that they will only change for other market is way bigger compare to close the door.

Martin, read my post again. I said AM3 will die, not AMD...

In my opinion, AMD will simply keep making their sockets they way they have since AM2. AM3+? and Intel. I dont know, more is better? perhaps a 1466 socket?
