BTW PS Elements 5.0 here on a p4 3.0c system opens a 4MB pic in about 5-10 seconds. No where near the "blink of an eye" speed but not bad.

you get it , you only need a driver install

I would choose raid 0 harddrive if you on budget / if more to spare SSD. For photoshop editing, buy a good Dell monitor, 24" would be a good choice because you need accurate color reproduction. LOTS of memory is needed. I have 12 Gb for modeling and image editing.

Despite the "I want a new computer fast" statement, it turns out that it was a simple problem. Once that was solved there was no longer a desire for a new computer :(
