Default New Computer Build - $1500 Budget

Ok so I've had discussion on this from a few folks on the forums already, but I'm now getting closer to the purchase date (1 week away) and wanted to get a new thread rolling on it for fresh ideas. This will be my first build, so any suggestions or observations would be great.

Desire: Best Bang for my $$
Budget: $1500 CDN
Overclocking: No real plans for it.
Computer Usage: General usage for word processing, web browsing, music and video playing, and some gaming (mostly mmorpgs, WoW / Everquest).

----------------

Antec Sonata III ATX Mid-Tower w/ Earthwatts 500W

Processor: $217.26
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 LGA775 Conroe 2.66GHz 1333FSB 4MB L2 Cache

Memory: $106.00
Mushkin HP2 PC2-6400 DDR2-800 2x1GB CL4-4-4-12 240PIN Dual Channel

[The Extras]

Samsung Syncmaster 206BW 20" Widescreen LCD 1680x1050 3000:1 2ms

Keyboard: $63.07
Saitek Eclipse II Silver Black 104 Key w/ Blue-Purple-Red Key Illumination

Operating System: $103.35
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition OEM

Grand Total: $1553.76 (shipping, insurance, and taxes included)

What I currently have chosen comes in about $50 over budget, but I can live with that. I could always take out the mouse to drop down under budget, which I never planned on buying until just a couple days ago, but I would really like to upgrade my current 7 year old mouse. A cheaper monitor would work also, if anyone knows a good one for < $250.

Hmm, well, you can change the monitor to this: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...%20Electronics

and take the mouse and keyboard away and get this:

You're good to go, with a great system for the budget.

And you will overclock.

I suggest getting a 5.1 system unless you have reason not too. They are better for gaming and the best for movies. These are decent and a good deal.

You can always get a different set but these are great for a starter set.

What about a soundcard? There are some great cards for great deals lately...

While 5.1 is great for games and great for movies its not so great for playing mp3s as its difficult to downsaple 5.1 sound to 2.1 or at least thats what i've found.

Well MP3 is 2.0 channel. So you mean it is difficult to up sample to 5.1?
You don't need to do that you can leave the output for MP3 as 2.0.
Your call, but 5.1 is great for gaming and movies...

Although I do game, I'm not a heavy gamer and I definately don't rely on (or require) a hefty sound system. I'm basically looking for a machine that will perform strongly for a long time to come and that looks nice as well (and within my budget). Adding in 5.1 speakers and a good sound card would mean having to cut $$ from elsewhere in the system. Not to mention, I really don't have anywhere to put surround speakers, I'd just like a couple decent yet cheap speakers sitting in front of me to listen to music and some watch the occasional movie. Believe it or not, I don't even generally have my speakers turned on when playing games.

I've been changing a few things around to suite my desires a little better as things move along, it seems like almost every day I am changing my mind on something or other. I'll post the final decision when it's ordered to keep you all up to speed, which will hopefully be tomorrow or wednesday. Please do keep the ideas and suggestions flowing though. I enjoy reading them and it helps me with making the decisions. :)
