Default Future for AM3 ?

Is there a future for AM3 ?
Is the phenom II x4 965 as good as its going to get ?

I really don't like whats going on with intel's 1156 upgradeability and 1136 is pretty expensive. Hard to make a decision right now.

There is a big future.
The 6-Core Opterons are being migrated from server duty to Desktop Duty in 2010.

:)
MmmMmMMmMmM Cores.

I'm right there with you, sitting here with Phenom (1) 9950 and trying to figure out what my next upgrade will be (as I want better CPU and more RAM to feed hungry VMs). A quick search on the rumour machine suggests AMD will go to 6 cores on AM3, but nothing official.

I believe it was offically announced.

I could be wrong.

Well i need a new rig for the next call of duty.
Considering that i have an athlon 64 3700+ and a radeon x1650(agp) right now, it will be an epic upgrade no matter with way i go lol

I just don't like the idea of buying an i5 knowing i will have to change everything next time i want to upgrade.

I wish amd would release something soon, would be very helpfull decision making wise.

id go with a 955. I couldnt justify the price markup for the multi to go up 1x when you have a black edition chip thats going to clock pretty damn close to the top dog if not equal it.

X3 720 makes loads more sense. The 955 loses by a large margin to the i5 750 and in any case both don't help for gaming much.

Intel is pissing me off a bit with the socket shuffle they're doing lately.

Honestly, I'd love for someone to explain to me WHY they need to change sockets with every chip. If it's connections then build a socket with 1400 pins and make all future chips use that for a while, dammit.

Right now you can buy socket 775, 1366 and 1156. Am I missing one? Gettin a bit stupid.
