My System Specs

Cool PhII 955be wonky sensors?

Slapped a 955be onto my 790FX-GD70 and I'm scratching my head over the temp indications I'm getting.

Stock speeds (under water) were 40c idle (both in bios and windows which is disturbing by itself) and 43c load. Currently getting 56c idle 61c load on a hefty OC.

The problem isn't so much with the temps as it is with the deltas between the temps. Everything I'm seeing looks like it's recording a passively cooled chipset. Temps don't spike when a load is applied, nor do they drop when the load is removed. They creep up (or drop) slowly (say 1c / couple of minutes) like a NB temp normally would.

I've updated to the latest bios, and tried coretemp, speedfan, and AMD AOD with all programs reporting the same temp, and no "unknown" temps which look to be reacting as I'd expect a cpu to react when a load is applied or removed.

I've already remounted a couple of times, and with the OC, I doubt very much the chip would be stress testing as well as it is if I was really hitting those kinds of temps.....

Any ideas?

Currently testing with the stock cooler installed and it's reporting exactly the same way (only higher as it's stock air).

Stock clocks are 57c idle, currently 58.5c load after 5 minutes prime.

Based on the level of the temps between WC and stock cooling, it's definately reading something to do with the cpu temp though.... wonder if I've got a proc where the cores aren't properly touching the IHS?

I'll check out everest, but I'm not gonna hold my breath as bios reports the same temps.

Hopefully sometime this week I'll be building a rig with the same cpu and board and a Cooler Master Hyper 212. Just waiting on the board to arrive. Should be by wed at the latest. We'll see what kind of temps I get.

Yeah, it's either the chip is out to lunch, or the motherboard. I'm leaning towards the chip.

Yep, and cpu temp shows as an extra 3c over and above.

Definately reading temp off of the cpu though. If it was reading NB as core temp then the WC + Stock cooling temps would be the same.

Is that normal for all the cores to have the same temp?

It would be if none of them were actually in contact with the IHS.... they'd just pick up whatever temperature was inside it.

I believe the P-PII only have 1 sensor not a sensor per core.
