Thinking of "upgrading" to i7...
Hey guys. As you can tell from my FS thread I'm definately making the jump to either i7, i5 or AMD.
Many of you have gone i7 920 DO. Could you post your temps idle and load pls ?
i am on water but with ambient of 30.1 at this moment cpu idle 47 44 46 43. underload 76 72 74 71
Hey there, myself im on water cooling has well, i had my 920 d0 OC to 4.2 ambient was at 22c loads from 40/45 been very happy with this chip.
Thanks guys. Anybody on air cooling ?
Yepp..TRUE push / pull
idle 37 / 36 / 38 / 37
Load 68 / 66 / 67 / 69
Not a DO...first lot that came out..OC in my Sig.
I7 @ 4ghz load temps
Prolimatech Megahalem with single Scythe 110 cfm fan in push=69-68-67-67C
Prolimatech Megahalem with Scythe 110 cfm fan in push and a Scythe 68 cfm fan in pull =67-67-66-66C
I will be putting the megahalem up for sale real soon....
Hyper 212 ($40) cooler on a D0 920, modest 3.4GHZ. Idle temps low 40s, high 60s (occasionally one or two cores 70-71c) on prime in a warm room, HAF case with good airflow.
Right now I would go with i7 x58 boards. They have been around for a while so bioses and boards are mature, and lots of info out there.
If it were xmas or late winter, I would look more closely at the 55 chipset and i5/i7 boards as they have some great features at decent prices. Real-life performance between the P55/X58 i7 chips are negligible IMO, but I dislike new boards generally...
I posted my results in the Hyper 212+ thread using OCCT and the linpack test and a 7 hour blend test.
