So I want to upgrade to a new cpu platform...

My Core 2 is getting on my nerves. :angry2:

So, the whole i5 vs i7 thing, ugh, why does no one know what's going to be the supported one? And are any price cuts or new MoBo's expected by Xmas? I can't go wrong with upgrading now right?

I really don't want an i5, i7 just seems so much better...idk

what advice do you guys got for me? And how is the Hydra Engine?

i7 comes in two flavours now...

Are you asking which is better, LGA1156 (i5) vs LGA1156 (i7), or are you asking LGA1156 (P55) vs LGA1366 (X58)?

I know LGA1366 is superior to 1156. But some people say Intel will drop 1366 in favor of 1156 or vice versa.

How do I know for sure I'm not investing in a soon to be dropped socket?

They both will be dropped. In time.

But for now, i7 has a 'higher' upgrade path, since they have announced ATLEAST 6 core cpus for 1366. Quad is as high as it gets for i5. Who knows what the next chipsets will be for sockets. It'll all change once Larabee or whatever its called comes out, and the gpu gets moved ondie, too.

I am also getting a little tired of my Dual core but I thing I will just upgrade to a quad then in a few months go to i5 or i7

Just don't forget this question : do you want a cpu upgrade because you need it or because you e-peen needs it?

stoanee September 20, 2009 11:59 AM

E-peen is ALWAYS important to me!:bleh::whistle::haha:

epeen :angry2:

Well I could have some more fps in game actually, but it's mostly epeen I suppose.

For reals, if I can get 5-10fps more, than it will be worth it.

Some people claim that LGA1136 will be abonded by Intel in favor of LGA1156. They also say LGA1136 will only be used for server cpu's (meaning 1156 is for gaming)

I also want something nice to accompany my Corsiar Obsidian when I pick one up this month (will also be cleaning my water cooling setup)

I just bought the i7-860 for the LGA1156 series... and so far I'm quite happy with it:)
