Intel is also planning to pull out the Intel Core i7 920 & 940 from the market as the LGA1156 will replace them. BTW, I read somewhere that it will not be called the i5. Also I'm excited for the new motherboard releases for this processor. Read the HWC article.

I'm not sure I understand your statement of facts, they are hazy at best. To clarify 1156 is not replacing 'them'. 1366 is staying. The 920 and 940 are indeed going EOL at some point in the (near) future. A 930 and 945 (I think are the model numbers) are being released to replace them. I dont understand the i5 not being 'called' i5 at all. If you're referring to the new model numbers of the 930 and 945, they will indeed be called i7.

And if you're excited about the new motherboards, you are one of the few.

you can push a i7 920 to 975 speeds without lifting a finger... just raise the QPI slowly and adjust a few wee settings, hell i pushed mine to 3.2 last night... only took a hour or so (was doing it in E-Leet first though...)

didnt have to even touch voltage... =) although i may have some bad ram haha

If you can't get 975 speeds sell the thing or take it back and get another cause your chip is crap.
Has anyone even found an i7 920 that can't hit at least 3.6GHz?
The 975 & 965 are not worth it...
I'd say maybe for those with extreme cooling, but even that's a maybe.
For OCing with air or water a 920 is the way to go.

As far as Intel phasing out the 920... I won't be too surprised.
I think they gave us more than the intended to with this little chip and now they regret it.
Either that, or it was just to get us hooked and all next-gen 1366 chips will all be crazy expensive.
Intel sucks... their processors are great... but INTEL SUCKS!
They'll never let us enjoy our hardware for more than a few months before they show us something else we'll all want.
They need a step-up program!!!

Getting to 3.2 GHz should take 30 seconds. Getting to 4.0 GHz? Give it 30 mins. to an hour tops, excluding stability test.

Yeh, i diddn't think they would be getting rid of the 1366 socket so fast. especially since that was the 775 killer. and i took a closer look at those I5's (or whatever they are called) and they aren't impressive.. at all. only "neat" thing i saw was a mAXT board with SLI...

After I learn QPI, I want to push the I7 to 5Ghz on liquid. With my QX9650 I got my computer to boot into windows at 4.9, but then immediately crashed...so i am hoping this miracle chip will excell.

So you already got Core i7? Anyways, you might not be able to hit 5Ghz on water. Not too sure on that, so I'll let the others Core i7 owners talk bout this.

Also, no offense to you, but I find your reason to upgrade stupid. Your rig is already very good. What are you doing with your rig?

Mainly gaming. I do dabble in Auto cad and my computer currently acts as a server for my network. I want to build another computer to play lan games with my roomies as well.

but if i build a new computer, I want to build a I7 Rig. I like speed, and from the sounds of it. I7 Has plenty of it.

Then there is the proposition of folding...

:Edit:
and no, i don't have a I7, yet. thats why i made this thread really, to gather some info. i dont know why we are talking about I5 now......
