Default CPU upgrade

Greetings. My e6400 has served me well and is going to a new home soon. I'm looking for a quad. This will be my final 775 cpu purchase. It will have to last me awhile. My budget will be between $125-$200.

What would you all suggest for best bang for the buck without breaking the bank? I will more than likely be purchasing second-hand.

Thanks.

I haven't owned a quad core and the reason being is that I don't really think that I need one the run ( from what I have read and heard) hotter then most dual cores I have been using my e8400 for just over a year and it works great I have never had any slowdowns that involve the cpu or for that matter any slowdowns period , so personally I think that unless you do allot of OCing and multi tasking that you really don't need a quad core. I do a fair amount of gaming and simple video editing I can unrar very large files download large files video edit and play Starware KOTORs at the same time with out any problems. but the decision is yours . when I do finally upgrade it will be I7 or I5 core something like that.

Q6600 or a Q8300. About all you'll get in that price range.

The Q8300 edges out the Q6600 performance wise, though it'll probably cost you more like $200. If you have plans to OC and have decent cooling, Q6600 is probably your best bet. If you're running stock, go with the Q8300 since it'll run cooler and it's a bit faster than a Q6600 at stock.

Yeah I just realized that....I'm thinking of selling my E8400 and replacing it with a Q9550...so checked the prices and whooaa...they've come down in price considerably since I was last looking at them....

I'm going for the Q8XXX or 9XXX for the 1333fsb. I may get lucky on ebay.

If you're alluding to the fact that I may get a dead cpu, I dont buy unless the person has near 100% positive feedback, more than 25 transactions under his/her belt and a DOA guarantee. I have never had a bad experience buying or selling pc parts on ebay.
