Is there any word of the QX6850 coming down in price as well?

I have not seen retail pricing ever come down for the top of the line x series intel cpus (not that i have ever bought one!)... they tend to get replaced in the lineup but not reduced in price since they would end up competing against the rest of the product line.

So your only real hope for an affordable one is getting them used.
