Default Q9550 to stock cool or custom cool?

Hey guys, I recently purchased a Q9550 and i was just wondering what you would reccomend in terms of cooling. Im not planning on overclocking it (especially after i payed $300 for it) but i've been hearing that the stock cooler provides inadequate cooling even without overclocking :(

Any help would be appreciated :D

get a xigmatek cheap and they work great. P.S point of overclocking a 300 cpu so it work like 1200 dollar cpu or faster just a little poke at the none overclockers ha ha

Xigmatek 1283 or OCZ Vendetta 2. Splurge and get the "crossbow" i7 backplate for it (both are same w/ slight difs in fin array). :)

If you grab the Xigmatek Dark Knight, it comes with the crossbow backplate already, and can be pricematched to $50. IMHO, good deal.

What!!

Thats the exact reason why you spent $300 so you can overclock it. With a good board you should be able to put that chip up to at least 3.2GHz on stock voltage, besides do you really want that cpu to be holding that GPU of yours back. Assuming you have a decent card already.

EE

how are your temps? if its under 70C for load i won't worry much about it.

but yea those intel stock HSF are loud and hard to work with, even those look like simple freakin small pins. the chances of a loosen pin is high if you don't know how they work

Umm im actually planning to purchase the rest of my comp (ie. video card and ram) later this year. I only got the cpu now to utilise a discount thing thats running. Thanks for the help though guys, ill take your suggested coolers into consideration. And yes, if the temps allow for it i shall overclock :) (hehe but your gonna have to help me with that when it comes to it also, cause im really quite noob :D)

wait, I don't get it.
if you already got the chip and stock cooler, then why not just install it and see the temps for yourself?
and if you dont like it, then buy a better cooler like the ones mentioned above.
EDIT: oh wait, I just saw your other post and assume that you still haven't bought an MoBo yet, so then wait till you get all your stuff and test it out.

My DK should be in tomorrow. The backplate is why I got the DK instead of a regular S1283; hate those push pins. Once I have it installed, I should be able to push to 3.8+ GHz.
