Default Need help choosing a CPU and Motherboard

Need help choosing a CPU and Motherboard. I need a motherboard that supports crossfire and I'm trying to keep it around $300 or less.

I'm looking at those 2 at the moment. It's $319.48. Does anyone have a cheaper suggestion? Also, which would be better for gaming, a Q8400 or a E8400. There both about the same price.

not a bad choice :)

i personally have that board, great overclocker, i had never had such stable overclocks, when i had 2 versions of the asus p45 boards, they usually have a random Blue screen of death onces a month or so, (even with 24hours stables of prime 95 and 15 hours of orthos), really frustrating. now that i switch to a biostar no problem what so ever. it does take a little time getting used to the bios setup, but once you get the hang of it, you will notice it has a lot of tweakable settings.

As for the Q8400, you will probably need a board bios update for any motherboard on the market. As of now biostar only have a beta bios for that chip.

And i would definitely pick a decently clocked quad for gaming. even tho it doesn't use all 4 cores, atleast you can play more future proof games.

Grand theft auto iv is a great example.

And i think newegg is a great company to buy from. if you have a problem with the board or DOA, you just phone them and they will even give you a shipping lable for free shipping without having to request it :)

GOod luck with your build :D

Have you Considered the 'Dragon Platform' with AMD?

Infonec Computers - Computer parts Canada, PC Components, laptop computers, motherboards, processors, CPUs and much more : GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P AM3 4DDR2 2PCI/3PCI-E X1/2PCI-EX16 SATA,RAID,1394,GBLAN ATX

And

Infonec Computers - Computer parts Canada, PC Components, laptop computers, motherboards, processors, CPUs and much more : AMD PHENOM II X4 810 2.6GHz 95W AM3 6MB

I am pretty much Running that Right now, and its a great setup.

I was thinking about going AMD because I already have a 4870, but none of their CPUs seem to even compare to Intels.

Charts, benchmarks Desktop CPU Charts Q3/2008, Crysis - 1680x1050

Also, I think I'm gonna go with the P45, thanks for the help guys :)

One last thing :P anyone know how FOXCONN is? Seems like a good price and good reviews..

Newegg.ca - Foxconn P45A-S LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Foxxcon is okay, from what I've heard.

And, that Chart doesn't have the new X4 AM3's on it yet so I don't know why you'd be using it (unless I missed something).
The 810 I have is a very Respectable Quad, with an IMC onboard and L3 Cache.
Both lacking in the Intel Chip.

Anywho, just letting you know.

o.O Wow. Just checked out some reviews for the 810, and I am impressed. 810 beats the i7 920, which is about $130 more. Thanks for letting me know :)

Didn't outperform it every time, but it outperformed or matched it 1920x1200 in almost every single test, which is the resolution I care about :P
