Question AM3 socket v. OCZ Vendetta 2 Cooler: Can It Be Done?

Well, Ive been enjoying Hardware Canucks for a long time now and have never felt capable of being able to contribute, as I have an Athlon X3800 on a 2GB DDR2 MSI board, sporting an AGP ATI X1600 Pro (Saphire 256MB).

I'm done. I'm done waiting... for the parts... for the money... for the knowledge/wisdom... and for the guts. I'm tired of this rig; it has served it's purpouse. I want to know what a modern PC feels like!!

Using the collected bits of wisdom from HC (and a little from AnandT ;), and my limited budget, I have brought together various components:

PC Power&Cooling Silencer 750 ($100.00 CAD)
Asus M4A78T-E (790GX w/ATI 3300 128 DDR3) ($190.00)
8GB Patriot Viper PC3-10666 1333 MHz DDR3 (2x$120.00)
Phenom II X4 955 BE ($375.00 inc.4yr IPR @ Mem Ex)
OCZ Vendetta 2 CPU Cooler ($60.00 special order *sheesh*)

This will all go in my existing Lian Li P61 case with the Noctua fan/TIM upgrade on the cooler.

The Question-> What, if any, mounting/bolt-thru kit can I use with the Vendetta 2 on this AM3 board?

Thanks to HC, I know that the cooler is a superrior Xigmatek HDT-S1283; does this mean I can, or should use the ACK-I7751 Crossbow Mounting Kit (don't wanna use the pushpin stuff), or should I use something else?

I have tried to get clear info on this and have failed. Is there anyone out there who knows?

Thanks guys n' grrls! If there's one thing I know, it's that there are two certain things in life: Death and Hardware Canucks! (You can cheat taxes)

PS. Can't wait to join the Folding team with this rig!

If your cooler is on an AM2 board it will certainly fit on the AM3 as they both use the exact same retention clip

Yup; the idea is to find out what mounting/bolt-thru kit I should use...
Not many kits specify AM2 or 3. Still looking...

I'm totally leaning toward the ATI 4890. I think I'll wait a bit until the board partners tweak and tinker a little more. It'd be nice to get an X2 derivative...

I've tolerated an AGP X1600 Pro 256MB for this long, I can live with the new on-board HD 3300.

Gonna add the PS3 to the team as well!

If your concern leans more towards folding than it does gaming I would recommend an nVidia based GPU rather than ATi. The max PPD I've got from mine is just shy of 4000 (3851). Which, compared to nVidia's solutions is rather weak.

I don't think I could recommend the HD 4890 for DX gaming though. It is a great card for the money imo.
