Default 955 or 940?

The x4 940BE is down to $230 free shipping at times and the 955BE free shipping $296. Other than DDR3 support is the 955 worth the price if I'm just wanting it for games or is the 940be the better choice and is there really that much of a performance difference? I can't find to much info comparing the 2 cpus in gaming and overclocking. I'm swaying towards the 940be but not sure if the extra 400mhz HT makes a big difference? The ddr3 thing is off the table as a selling point by the time 2-3 yrs goes by new cpus will be out anyway. Thanks.

If the DDR3 Thing is off the Table, then future proof yourself a little more and hit up the Newer Chip.

My thoughts at least,

UPS just brought it to my door, all the games are in the box, box isn't crushed, all's good. To bad I've got to go do concrete maybe tonight I can install it or tomorrow. I've never had an unlocked multi cpu so hoping for 3.5ghz would be good for me.

rapmaster, let me know how u'r cpu goes.

3.5ghz should be no sweat.

Did you pickup an aftermarket cooler at all?

You should be able to hit 3.8GHz with two basic tweaks:

1) Adjust Multiplier to 19x
2) Adjust voltage to AROUND 1.4v (lower the better but start at 1.40v and if it is stable - work your way down.

This isn't guaranteed to work but it seems to be the most popular number for people to hit with ease - Anything above requires a lot more finicking.

Oh ya - and ONLY do this if you have an aftermarket cooler and temps are good. You don't want your CPU going above 60c under load or you can expected reduced efficiency and life.

I'm going to use the stock heatsink first, since it's a beast for a stock heatsink. I'm not going to receive it until late next week or in two week. Damn UPS and slow service.

Well, I got it in and yes I use the beast tuniq tower 120 for cpu cooler. The stock cooler looks nice and will probably go on x2 3800. So far I can boot into xp pro 64 and it loads then bsod, so I boot into win 7 64 so far so good no bsod.

Thanks for the advise Fixt I'll try it out once things are straightened out.
