I'm currently using spread with MX-2 with my Domino ALC cooler. I'm getting very good results compared with what I had with the pea method, but that may have been just luck. I noticed with the spread method there was alot of what looked like air bubbles. The pea sized method seemed the best because it was more consistent, fewer if any air bubbles. I've just recieved my Coolit systems TIM and was going to try it out this weekend I think I may try the pea method again.

Cross or pea seems best....

You really need to pay attention to the type and thickness of compound you are using... try to figure out what to do based on your own judgement. Some of those thicker compounds that didn't spread well may finish spreading under heat (and being clamped down) when viscosity goes down.

No offense to the guy who made these videos but a human pressing on a piece of plastic / acrylic can never duplicate the amount of pressure that a proper heatsink mount will apply to the top of a processor.

I agree. He can maybe do a 1/4 a normal heatsink will do.
