Default Asus M2N-E motherboard... which CPU is better upgrade?

I have an Asus M2N-E motherboard and a Anthlon 64 X2 3800 Duo Core CPU @2.01GHz. This CPU actually gives me a severe bottleneck with the 9800GTX card. I can't even run Bioshock at 1440X900 smoothly. So i am thinking of upgrading my CPU.
The suggestions that came to me were controversial. Some say the Phenom 7750 is better than the Athlon X2 6400. Some say i should get a Phenom I triple or quad core. I seriously don't know what to upgrade...~~ >_< My budget for CPU upgrade is around $100 to $150. So, i am sticking with my M2N-E board....and this board doesn't support Phenom II T_T

I'd go with the 7750. For gaming at those resolutions you really don't need a quad core. And the 7750 is newer architecture than a 6400+ and will more than likely overclock better, so it's a better bang for your buck.

+1

and if you want to wait till next week, there is the new 7850 at 2.8GHz, I don't know if it make a difference when overclock though

it's not that high end graphic card, it should be ok but it's a Black Edition CPU, so it's really easy to overclock if there any bottleneck

Yeah, stay away from the 6400+, it's older tech.. not very powerful, and has way too much power consumption and heat for what it is..

Couldn't you keep this in one thread?

Just overclock that X2 3800+ and call it a day. That's what I did.
