Question My first build, gaming pc after the price cuts -- Opinions?

Hello people!
I will be building my first compter this summer. I will get it after the price cuts of july. My budget will be ~$1700. I am planning on buying mostly from Memory Express since I live close to one of it's location in Calgary. Here is what I have so far:

Mobo:
Gigabyte N650SLI-DS4 Nforce 650I LGA775 ATX 2PCI-E16 3PCI SATA2 RAID Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard - $176.47

CPU:
Intel Core™2 Duo Processor E6600 2.4GHz w/ 4MB Cache - $269.95
(I will get the equivalent in price after the cuts)

RAM:
OCZ 2GB PC2-6400 Gold Gamer eXtreme XTC Edition Dual Channel DDR2 Kit (2 x 1GB) - $119.05 (-$35 MIR)

GPU:
eVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDTV-Out -$429.95(-$30 MIR)

Case:
Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gamer Case - $119.95

HDD:
Seagate 320GB Barracuda 7200.10 SATA II w/ NCQ, 16MB Cache - $89.95

PSU:
I don't know, need sli-ready and be able to support 2 8800gts' if I ever get another one.... Maybe also modular since it keeps the case free of wires....
~$150
DVD-Drive:
Samsung SH-S183A 18x18 Dual Layer DVD+/-RW, SATA, Black - $39.95

CPU Cooler:
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro LGA775 2500RPM 45CFM- $29.67

Sound Card:
Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio, OEM - $59.95

Speakers:
Altec Lansing VS3251 Powered 5.1 Audio System - $59.95

Keyboard & Mouse:
Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 710 Laser - $79.95

Total: $1624.79
+$89.63 tax
+$18.16 shipping and insurance
=$1732.58

I am open to any suggestion as long as does not go over my budget too much..
This computer will be used mostly for gaming.

Also does anyone have a suggestion for a 22'' WS monitor.

Thank you for your help in advance!

Welcome to the forum- It looks like a well-researched build, and if you really want an SLI board, I can't see anything I'd change- I might venture toward a higher end cooler like a tuniq tower 120 or a thermalright ultra 120 or something, but with the way the e6600s are overclocking these days, it might not be worth it.

I would recomend you wait until the Intel CPU price cuts coming up on the 22nd- you might be able to afford a better CPU then- they are going to be fairly substantial cuts.

i would go 4gb on the ram if you're planning on using vista.

the mouse and keyboard isn't really designed for gaming. logitech's g series is a much better option.

for monitor i would recommend samsung's 22inch.

since, you're only getting a 22inch monitor sli really won't benefit you a whole lot. i would probably suggest a p35 or x38 motherboard if they're out by then.

btw, why is shipping and insurance listed if you live close to the place you're buying from?

Keyboard & Mouse:
Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 710 Laser - $79.95

If you play FPS game DO NOT buy this keyboard combo, when you depress a key ( say to move forward ) and move your mouse ( to target someone ) @ the same time you will stop moving until you depress the key again. Do you need a wireless combo? Or would a wired keyboard and a wireless gaming mouse, there is a few good ones out there, work for you?
Other than that wait for the price cuts for sure!

Hey!
Thanks for all your responses...
Would any of you have a suggestions for a p35 board for >$180.
Quickly I was able to find:

ASUS P5K ATX LGA775 P35 DDR2 2PCI-E16 3PCI 1PCI-E1 SATA2 Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard $166.75

Abit IP35 ATX LGA775 P35 DDR2 PCI-E16 1PCI-E1 3PCI SATA2 RAID Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard $180.90

Abit IP35-E ATX LGA775 P35 DDR2 PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 3PCI $144.90

Biostar TP35D2-A7 ATX LGA775 Conroe P35 DDR2 1PCI-E16 $130.30

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R ATX LGA775 Conroe P35 DDR2 1PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 SATA RAID Sound GBLAN Motherboard $164.95

Intel DP35DP ATX LGA775 P35 DDR2 1333FSB PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 3PCI Gbe Viiv SATA2 Sound Motherboard $134.99

For the keyboard/mouse I'll definitely will go for the logitech G5 gaming mouse but is the Logitech G15 gaming Keyboard at $90 really worth it? I was thinking about just getting a cheaper one for ~$40.

The Tunic Tower 120 looks like a popular cooler and I eventually will overclock so I'll go for that too.

Is another set of 2Gb of RAM really needed for gaming on vista? I was thinking of just getting 2x1Gb at purchase and 2x1Gb later on...

And shipping is for the things I'm getting form NCIX since not available at Memory Express or cheaper even with shipping.

Anyways, thanks again!

for the RAM- unless you're using Vista 64 bit (which you probably shouldn't), only about 3GB max will be recognized and used. 2 GB will be fine until you feel like going for more later (or eventually changing to ddr3 if you get a p35)

don't bother with the G15 kb. i have one i regret spending the $80 on it. sure it's nice to look ay with the backlit keys, and i don't have to pound at the keys for them to register, but other than that, i don't need all the macros settings, you'll prolly never remember what keys you bind to them anyways, the lcd is purty, but when was the last time you thought to look down at your kb to see what time it was?
don't get me wrong, it's a sleek well designed keyboard, i just think it has too many bells and whistles that i thought would be nice/helpful to have, but in the end, i still just WSAD it.

I will go for 32-bit and 2gb of ram.
What about the PSU? Should I go for the OCZ GameXStream 600W/700W since it looks very popular or go for a more expensive one?

Thanks again!
