Thanks for the heads-up - clears a couple more questions that I had... especially the username being case-sensitive. We'll know more over the week-end, once the rig is complete and running.

FYI, rig is working fine, folding as I type this.

Mobo is dead-cheap, no way to oc that "thing". I tried 1.8ghz (from 1.6 default on the E2140) and the darn thing corrupted my Win2K install!

There's no way to increase the CPU volts, RAM-wise it's .1V increase only and the RAM settings are set in stone.

But it fits the bill, for a test rig.

Are you going to run the SMP beta on that rig? (It is a dual core chip right???).

Just DL the SMP beta and install it on your rig. Don't set it up as a "service" just start it up yourself or put it in the start folder.

You'll get better points off of it and you won't have to muck about trying to set up two instances of the standard core to run on each core. (It will utilize both cores to the max.... :) ).

It takes up a lot of resources so you'll want to actually shut it down if you want to do heavy lifting like 3D gaming. (I have no problem doing non-3D apps with it running).

SMP beta installed. 3 questions:

1. why do I have 4 processes running @ the same time?
2. since this is a command prompt window (instead of the GUI), how do I modify the options, or pause?
3. is there a way to compare both rigs, performance-wise?

Since the new chips are essentially pentiums... I'm wondering if they've got HT enabled and are acting as a 4 core chip..... I don't know, that's well above my knowlege level.... :)

As far as Pausing goes.... as far as I know there's no such thing.... just shut it down (ctrl-C) and start it up again.

Seems to me you just need to run "install.bat" from the fah SMP folder to change settings.

Thanks.

Let me double-check the HT in the BIOS. If I shut-down, I don't loose anything?

Just checked the HT option in the BIOS - no such option on that mobo. This can seriously slow down folding, right?

Essentially you're running two instances on each core so yeah it will affect folding.

Hopefully one of the folding gurus will drop in tonight with some info.....

I'm sure there must be a way to turn off HT in the client, but unfortunately I'm up to my elbows in ripped apart gear trying to get a drive ghosted so that I can use it for testing/benching over the next couple of weeks so I can't take the time to hunt it down.
