Default Planning on getting a Q9650

Hi guys.
I recently have a E8400 overclocked to 3.6ghz (watercooled).
By the end of summer I am going to have around 750 bucks to spend on computer hardware and I was thinking of selling my 8800gtx and buying a gtx 280 and also upgrading my psu to a tx 750 and also maybe selling my E8400 and buying a Q9650... Should I make that move? Is it worth it? (I dont want to get an i7 or wait for i5 because I have a p5q and I dont want to get another mobo cuz I have a bunch of junk on my computer that I dont want to have to re install.. so yeah)

Things will have changed quite a bit by the end of the summer- not easy to plan that far ahead. My first impression is no- I predict that if you have $750 by the end of the summer that you want to use it for an upgrade, it won't be to a GTX 280 and a q9650. But not much point in overthinking it at this juncture, it's a long way off in computer hardware timeframe.

One thing you can bank on, though, is that you will be upgrading your PSU and that's something you can do anytime, or plan ahead for as the field doesn't change as rapidly as the other gear.

- Water cooled E8400 ?...OC that sucker...mine is at 4.05 Ghz on air...if your not happy, consider a Quad Core.
- By summer, consider either a GTX 285 or see what the reviews are like for the GTX 3xxx Series
- As Barb stated, upgrading the PSU is "an anytime" thing and is definitley recomended if your planning higher end stuff...

PS You'll see a huge difference in gameplay OC'ing that E8400 to at least 3.8 Ghz and replacing that 8800GTX with a GTX 2xxx series Card.

Well to make a prediction you wont want to spend $450 (I predict at least one price drop) on a Q9650 when you could get a much better cpu for less. Plus you probably wont be looking at the GTX 280 but a higher end model. With that said I would never go for the Q9650 because of the price premium of a few 100mhz for over $100 when you can overclock (seeing as you already have water cooling).

Anyways for the computer world it is way too far in advance to make a final decision.

I was considering getting a gtx 295 or a 4870 x2 but some dude talked me out of getting the 295 and im sorta scared judging by the feedback of people who had purchased the 4870x2 about driver support...

People still have troubles with it, I mean, that's a given, but it's better then it was.
