My System Specs

Default I need help deciding.

Pros and cons of these two boards?

EVGA X58 or Gigabyte X58 UD5 or Extreme

I've read both the reviews on here and I can't decide.

I'm leaning towards the EVGA X58, because that's what I'd normally go with. It's also a Solid Oc'er. However I have received offers for BNIB and slightly used GB boards for decent prices.

The main issue is I'd like to buy a soundcard and will it fit in the EVGA X58 if i populate the top PCIe slot with a video card?

Can you guys offer me any info you have; good or bad on either of these boards? I'm especially looking for people who may have owned both in their lives and can tell me.

I'm -not- considering any other boards at this time; for the sake of simplicity.

Personally? I'd go with the EVGA, better support and warranty IMO. When it comes to over clocking, they should come within hairs of each other.

Really, other than that, it would come down to the colours and layout to be frank, which serves your hardware better?

See my response here:

But ya, the PCI-E cards will work in a 16x slot, they are electrically compatible. Or you use a PCI card. It's the only negative I've found about my EVGA, other than the NB fan. But that problem went away when I put the side panel back on the Cosmos S.

Encorp if its anything like the 790I boards and im pretty sure it is then the top PCI-E X1 slot isnt blocked by the videocard/Northbridge cooling fan, it should fit np. as for the choices id go with Evga just because I like their stuff and the life time warrentee is nice? plus from what I hear it does overclock pretty well.

Awesome thanks so far everyone; seems like the majority of people are confirming what I already want haha the EVGA X58. I didn't ask this in my worklog because I wasn';t sure if I'd get as many direct responses...

Sugarj: When you mention the NB fan - Is it loud? What problem was solved when you put the panel back on your Cosmos S? I have the same case and with my TRUE the side fan does not fit in the side panel. Also I may be changing out for a CM Sniper and selling my Cosmos S haha

Sniper case = Nice, if I had the budget this build its what I would have went with, tons of room for coolers and still has handles! all of the nvidia northbridge fans are loud, the chipsets run hot and the fans run at 4k+ rpm @ 100%
best way to stop it is put the chipsets under water or install aftermarket heatsinks =D

Yeah I've got the 750i right now; and it's pretty loud. I'm considering water but until I decide on what parts I'm using for the rest of the build I really can't afford to splurge on anything else haha.. like I said; I've literally got two to three of everything right now and once I decide, a huge for sale thread will be going up with my spare parts.

Well I know they improved the x58 over the 750i but only by blowing the hot air at a wall and out the sides of the cooler instead of straight into the back of your GPU, other then that I believe its the same fan theyve been using for since that board.

I found the NB fan to be a little louder than I wanted, but one of the reasons I WC is because of noise. But honestly, I can't hear it now that I've put the side panel back on. Also, I have one of the window side panels, you would not have an issue with the TRUE clearance if you used that panel instead. Or put plexi in your current panel. Oh, and Realityshift, FYI the PCI-Ex1 slot is blocked as soon as you put a double-slot card in the 1st GPU slot. Look at pictures of the board, it's very apparent.

It's a side blowing fan; I think exactly like the 790i's etc... so yeah equally noisy... although noise has never really bothered me... I'm not sure what things would sound like if it was quiet in my room ahaha
