775 Mobo using ddr2 or ddr3???

Any recomendations?

My brother wants a new Mobo. He would like 6 sata ports if possible (but he could make due with 4). He would also like SLI / crossfire support.

He wants to use his current hardware, yet keep his upgrading options open, and cost effective.

Thanks

Does he already have decent DDR2? If yes, AFAIC it's a no-brainer to stay with that if he's going S775. He won't see much benefit to going DDR3 and they're still quite pricey when compared to DDR2.

I've been quite happy with my P5Qpro (8 SATA), but that's in the upper/mid price range. Gigabyte has some good P45 offerings as well.

I realize my question was not as clear as it should have been.

Are there any motherboards which can use either ddr2 or ddr3 on the same board? So he can use his ddr2 for now, but when he wants to buy ddr3 (down the road) he can use the same motherboard.

There is but its not worth it.

DDR3 + 775 != good
