Perhaps some new AM3 motherboards today and/or soon?
"We should start seeing [AM3 boards] in the channel around Feb. 20," -Robert Pearce, senior technical marketing specialist at Corsair Memory.

Hopefully this is some sort of indication of a new AM3 Chipset motherboards that will be coming out, rather than yet more 790FX boards... Don't get me wrong, the 790FX chipset has been a great performer for several years now... but AMD needs something better to compete with the tri-channel capability of Intel's X58/i7 boards.
Crossing fingers here...

According to: AMD 2009 Chipset Roadmap - OCWorkbench Forum on Phenom II AM3. GTX 285, GTX 295, Investment Tech Lifestyle SEO Investment USA, UK, Germany, France, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines Hotels, Price List, MWC 2009 , in Q2 AMD will bring new chipsets (SB800).

I just bought the Gigabyte MA790X-UD4, simply because I don't believe AMD will get any significant boost from using ddr3 in the near future.

DDR3 in general isnt a great step up from DDR2... Higher frequencies at the cost of CAS latencies make the difference minimal on any platform. The difference is that other platforms like the Intel i7 platform can use Tri-channel DDR3, which IS a noticable difference. Therefore, im hoping that these new 800-series chipsets will support tri or quad channel DDR3

I just ordered that board last week based on somewhat the same idea. DDR3 Cl 7 ram is a little too much $$$ for me to gain 3-5 fps in a game.

Well the 20th came and went, still no announcement for any new chipset (or anything else new for that matter). C'mon AMD... Keep the competition alive, a monopoly by Intel in the computer world will only lead to less innovation and higher prices (aka price-fixing).

Iiiiiiinteresting:
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd...-cpu,7080.html

It seems as if some fancy Koreans managed to unlock the locked core of an AM3 Phenom 2 X3 710. Now if only they could do the same to the 720BE.... and show everyone how to do it, we may be on to something here folks, lol.
