Default DDR2/3 Supported motherboards?

Hi, I'm new to these forums and I'm looking to get a new build going.

At first I was looking at the i7 920 with an x58 motherboard, but the overpriced motherboard (IMO) with DDR3 ram and etc. is too much for my budget. I just want something that is very upgradeable in the future which is why I'm a bit hesitant with going for LGA775 since it's been out for so long, but I guess it's my only choice. Recently, I have discovered a motherboard that supported DDR2/3 ram which I think would be perfect for me. I could save hundreds by not going with an i7 build, and I can still upgrade in the future. If anyone knows about these motherboards, it would be great if you helped me pick one out.

Thanks,

You either buy 775 with DDR2 or i7 with DDR3.

775 with DDR3 is not worth the money.

Thanks for the quick reply,
Do you think that Intel will stop working on 775 because of the 1366?
I would like something upgradeable in the future.

775 will be around for awhile and while it seems that the e8600 was the last high end C2D chip released they seem to have plans to possibly release more quads.

But with that said also don't forget sometime in 2009 they are releasing the i5 chips which is in the easiest terms the replacement for 775 where i7 on the other hand will be more of the replacement chip for the 771 series.

Both the i7 and i5 will use 1366 and the same socket.. one is just more consumer based.

I believe Intel released a roadmap or something where the LGA775 would be supported for another two years.

Can you recommend a 775 motherboard and CPU that is good for gaming?

Another 2 years? Whew! That's a good sign for me. Thanks.

P5Q-Pro with Q9550 or e8400

Which ever your budget allows.

Personally I say the 8400 but others say quad.

I have a e8600 and I've yet found anything that I can't play good with my 8800gt

My P5Q Pro and my E7200 can gobble any game up.

Never worry about future upgradeability. There are no guarantees any specific platform will be around 12 months from now.

"P5Q-Pro with Q9550 or e8400"
You're the third to suggest the P5Q-Pro to me, so it sounds good.

to b1lk1:
According to your sig, my build will probably be similar to yours.
With the P5Q, and the 4870. I'll probably be picking up some Mushkin 2gb sticks also.

I still don't know about my CPU. You both seem to be suggesting core2duos, but i actually prefer quad... How about the q6600? any good?
